Anne Lister's
travels - a visual tour
Anne Lister (1791-1840) was a phenomenal force of nature. She was a woman ahead of her time, unstoppable when she set her mind on something and utterly unforgettable.

She travelled extensively and recorded most of all she saw and experienced in her numerous journals. Her diaries were added to the UNESCO UK Memory of the World register in 2011. Through Anne Lister's own words, travel enthusiasts can now follow in her footsteps and experience her adventures.

I like Germany exceedingly... I am so pleased with Germany, I think of travelling about there the next spring - but not knowing German is terrible.

The stillness and monotony of home contrasts strongly with the bustle and constant variety of travel - perhaps when the heart is uninterested, the mind is restless, and the body feels a want of moving - thus am I fond of travelling.

The scenery is quite indescribable - hills, valleys, woods, rocks, rivers, villages - white wooden cottages sprinkled over the fresh green pastures, and fantastically thrown together among high mountains half hidden by clouds.
